Profile Mr. Peder Meldgaard started back in 1970 a small transport company called Aabenraa Budcentral with only one small truck. That became the start of what we today know as the meldgaard GROUP. During the 70 s the company expanded from a small company with a few activities such as delivery of goods, small movings, collecting rubbish into a company with a lot of activities and departments. Therefore in 1971 the moving department was founded. The same year meldgaard bought a party service company, so from that day meldgaard also had hire service of tableware, tables, chairs and party tents. In the coming years the business expanded by own growth and by buying related companies. In 1976 the company won the invitation to submit tenders for rubbish collection in Aabenraa municipality. This activity the company had for many years and still has. However this activity grew and today meldgaard is also collecting rubbish in more municipalities. In 1977 the company meldgaard got the sole agency for a Dutch cable system in Denmark. The sole agency for this system, used for container transport, became the beginning of a new company in the meldgaard GROUP: meldgaard HYDRAULIK A/S, which was founded in 1987. Contemporary the new company got a few other sole agencies for hydraulic grabs, fuel tanks, hook lifts and other hydraulic components for trucks. In 1997 the company established it s own production of cable systems used for container transport. This cable system was a technical development of existing systems on the market. The same year the company also became the agent of an electronic weighing system used on excavator / wheel loaders in Denmark and other Scandinavian countries. From the late 70 s the progress moved fast. The company meldgaard grew, among other things by development of new business areas. A new production of Silikat (a product of sandblasting) was established. Also the transport section in the company was separated into two departments, one for international transport and one for domestic transport. In 1980 the company bought a gravel pit called Moselund. Therefore the business of selling sand, stones and gravel was a natural next step for the company. This activity grew very well and in 1988 a new 48 ha area was bought nearby Aabenraa. Today this area is a gravel pit where sand is gained after the most modern methods to secure the quality of the products. As an offshoot from the rubbish collecting the company also in 1997 established a place for receiving industrial waste. Today this activity also includes receiving and sorting mixed industrial waste. The company meldgaard is not only represented in Denmark but also in Germany. In 1992 a company meldgaard HANDEL GmbH was founded in Berlin. The main activity of this company was sale of equipment for gravel pits. In 1998 the company got the sole agency of a well-known Italian produced weighing system for excavator and wheel loaders. The success in Germany by selling equipment for gravel pits resulted in founding a new company in Denmark called meldgaard HANDEL A/S. The activities in this company were to sell machines for gravel pits so as screening plants, crushers and conveyor belts. In 1995 a company meldgaard FODER & HOBBY A/S was founded. This company is a retail shop, selling all stuff for pets (feed, fence, accessories for pets). As an offshoot of this shop a new wholesale business called meldgaard ENGROS A/S was founded, selling feeds and accessories for pets. The development in the environmental area has in the past years almost exploded. In this development the company meldgaard MILJ & GENBRUG A/S has been involved. From only collecting rubbish for the municipalities, the activities have increased to receiving rubbish from several big Danish power plants, collecting all kinds of waste, keeping sewage sludge, receiving, crushing and sorting of demolition waste. The meldgaard GROUP has moved its site several times because of the increase in activities. From the very beginning the company was located at the privat address, today the company is located in a 650 m2 big modern office building together with 660 m2 warehouse and workshop at the address Askelund 10 in Aabenraa. From this location 180 employees are working. The meldgaard GROUP in the future The basic idea of the meldgaard GROUP is through controlled growth to go on with the development in the basic area, transport, environment, recycling and trade where the company has its forces.
