Engineering Innovation the foundation of progress in the 20th Century It was an era when two bicycle mechanics from Ohio figured out how to get a plane into the air, change direction in flight, and most important, bring the plane back down safely. Just a few years after the Wright Brothers famous flight, the same kind of imagination and mechanical skill was to be found on a small farm in rural Pennsylvania. It was here that a farmer named Isaiah Engle noticed his neighbors had to frequently replace failed or leaky valves on their steam driven reciprocating pumps. Isaiah had an idea for a new valve design that might provide better service and last longer. He began experiments in his machine shop. The replacement valve he developed had a revolutionary soft seat that functioned better than any competitive model available. Better still, the Engle valve lasted a lot longer. Superior performance and long term service have continued to define every CPV product since 1915 when Isaiah first went into business. Of course, the need to develop products that exactly match application requirements is equally important. Our effort to maintain regular contact with our customers has often been instrumental in the development or improvement of CPV valves and fittings. New Line of Check Valves In the late 1930s, CPV led the industry by engineering a new line of check valves which were used on the centrifugal pumps. Installed in a housing connected to a pipeline, these valves effectively controlled the destructive surge caused by reverse flow. This made it possible to meter flow far more accurately than had ever been possible before. Because of their ability to control water hammer, silent check valves developed by CPV have been installed in numerous high rise structures such as the Space Needle in Seattle and the CN Tower in Toronto. CPV Joins the Navy CPV s expertise in valves and fittings engineered for leakproof control of high pressure gases and liquids eventually led to major contracts with the U.S. Navy. In the 1950s CPV designed and manufactured the 3000 psi couplings used in Navy catapults. As the company s Navy business grew, it became clear that a specialized test station was needed to expedite the Navy s testing requirements. The testing unit developed by CPV used O-rings to enable quick assembly and disassembly. Hand tightening of the union nuts on either side of the valve was all that was required. The "slip in - slip out" ease of this test station configuration, coupled with its high pressure leakproof reliability clearly warranted further development. CPV Test Station Leads To Valve System Breakthrough The CPV O-Seal System was the result. In this design an O-ring is recessed into a close tolerance groove on one of the flat faced union ends. This creates a bubble tight seal that can withstand heavy vibration or pressure surges far better than gasket or metal to metal seals. Demand for this product was strong and instantaneous. The Navy s success with the O-Seal System fittings led CPV to develop a new globe valve with a cartridge type soft seat rated for 6000 psi. Another major success story for CPV. Today CPV is known around the world for the O-Seal System of high pressure valves and fittings, the Mark VIII system of tube size valves and fittings, FlowMaster air operated shutoff valves, and the new CPV G-Series Valves -- Shutoff, Needle & Check. Through the years, our innovation, high quality standards, and attentive service have kept CPV at the forefront of the valves & fittings industry. Count on CPV for valves and fittings that fit perfectly, function effectively, and provide years of trouble free service. Product Overview G-Series Valves-- Shutoff, Needle & Check Stainless steel G-Series valves were developed in response to the needs of customers in a wide variety of applications. Soft seat design (stem inserts) assures years of bubble tight shutoffs, in either gas or liquid service. G-Series Valves are rated for up to 6000 psi (413 BAR) and will function from 65?F (-54?C) to 400?F (204?C), depending on seal material selected. They are available in six orifice sizes. A variety of different pipe or tube end connections from 1/8 to 1-1/2 are available. To access Catalog 98 on-line click here. To view the PDF version click here. O-Seal System Valves and Fittings A complete system of valves (Shutoff, Needle, Check & Relief) and fittings. The valves are constructed with a soft sear to assure thousands of bubble tight shutoffs for liquids or gases. Maintenance and inspection are simplified because of the valve's cartridge design. Access to all components is "slip in-slip out" because the flat faced union connections are engineered with the unique CPV O-Seal System. The valves are rated for vacuum to 6000 psi at temperatures from -60?F to +400?F, depending on seal material. Available in pipe sizes from 1/8" to 2". To access Catalog 68 on-line click here. FloMaster valves are rated for 6000 psi for temperatures ranging from 20?F to 225?F. Other advantages include low actuation pressure (under 100 psi), large port size for increased flow and proven soft seat design for years of bubble tight shutoffs. The CPV O-Seal System end connections provide leakproof reliability and the ease of slip in slip out installation. Cartridge type valve design makes all parts readily replaceable, including the seat. Your system can be easily set up for remote operation from a console or by computerized controls. The labor savings and improved repeatability generated by this valve control will quickly prove its cost-effectiveness. To access Catalog 96 on-line click here. To view the PDF version click here. Mark VIII Stainless Steel Shutoff & Regulating Valves These soft seated valves feature flat-faced union connections which allow users to slip the valve in or out as needed. Springing or cutting the line is not necessary. All wetted surfaces are 316 stainless steel. Sizes from 1/8 to 5/8 are available in either angle or globe body styles. These valves are rated for operating pressures to 3000 psi and are ideal for instrumentation or process systems. Panel mounting nuts are standard. To access Catalog 82 on-line click here. Mark VIII O-Seal Tube Fittings Mark VIII fittings are designed with flat faced union connections which incorporate a resilient O-ring into a close tolerance groove on the body. Low torque of the union nut achieves leakproof reliability to 6000 psi in liquids or gases including hydrogen. These fittings offer users unlimited break/remake capability. Pressure surges make the seal tighter and vibration will not cause these fittings to shake loose. Mark VIII O-Seal fittings are the perfect choice for dry machine applications. Mark VIII O-Seal Hose Fittings Reusable Mark VIII adapters and connectors enable engineers to include hoses in piping design. These hose fittings make assembly and disassembly fast and easy no swivel joints required. They offer unlimited adaptability, superior vibration resistance and positive O-ring sealing. Available for use with medium and high pressure hose (SAE 100R5 and 100R2) for hose sizes from 1/4 to 1 . Standard material is steel; other materials available. Mark VIII Tube Fittings Direct Braze or Weld Installation Engineered for applications requiring permanent, hermetically-sealed tube connections. Ideal partner for Mark VIII O-Seal separable tube and hose fittings. Steel or stainless steel construction offers leakproof assurance in pressures from vacuum to 6000 psi. These popular CPV fittings have been designed for direct braze or weld installation and are available in couplings, tees, elbows, and reducers in sizes from 1/4 to 2 OD. Silent Check Valves These unique CPV valves prevent pressure surges and water hammer more effectively than traditional swing check valves. A specially engineered stainless steel helical spring initiates instant closing at zero flow velocity. Swing check valves do not close until reverse flow begins, allowing pressure surges to build. Either a precision machined metal-to-metal seat for general service, or soft seat for bubble tight sealing to 250?F can be specified. Standard sizes range from 1/2 NPT to 24 flanged and pressure ratings from 125 to 1500 psi. To access Catalog 800 on-line click here. To view the PDF version click here.
