Terriberry, Carroll & Yancey, L.L.P., traces its origins to 1917 when George H. Terriberry and partners commenced a general civil practice specializing in admiralty. It remains one of the principal maritime law firms in New Orleans to date and also maintains a branch office in Gulfport, Mississippi. Through its practice in Mississippi, the firm has the privilege of serving such clients as the Dole Food Company, Gulfport Towing, Transocean Offshore, and Pearl River Navigation, among others. Terriberry has five attorneys admitted to all Federal Courts in Mississippi and one attorney admitted to all Federal and State Courts. For litigation which arises in rural or remote areas of Mississippi, the firm also maintains a network of attorneys in solo and small firm practices who are highly effective as local counsel within their particular counties. This allows Terriberry to provide its clients with the benefits of its size and experience in litigation management, and to ensure our principals have the benefits of a knowledgeable local attorney. Terriberry is comprised of 12 partners, three associates, and two counsel. It is assisted by a support staff of legal secretaries, paralegals, and experienced casualty investigators. The firm has expanded its traditional blue water or oceangoing steamship practice to include representation of brown water, inland, offshore oil and related operations, commercial fishing and recreational boating, as well as general civil litigation and insurance defense in areas such as products liability, land owner liability, and inland transportation casualties. Representative clients include U.S. and foreign protection and indemnity clubs associated with the shipping industry, comprehensive general liability underwriters, maritime and employers liability underwriters, U.S. and foreign shipowners, oil companies, offshore drilling contractors, domestic vessel owners and operators, domestic port/terminal operators, domestic truck lines, U.S. insurance companies, and the New Orleans Steamship Association. The firm's traditional maritime practice touches all facets of admiralty law and general civil litigation, including collision litigation, hull loss, defense of personal injury and cargo claims, financing, regulatory practice, administrative claims and procedures, pollution, immigration and customs problems, labor disputes, products liability, marine gaming, and toxic tort litigation, among others. Heavy emphasis is placed on litigation: each lawyer at Terriberry is actively involved in all phases of case handling, from investigation through trial and appeal. Additionally, a 24-hour on-watch schedule is rotated among the attorneys, providing its clients immediate access to counsel in the event of a casualty.
