FACILITIES AVAILABLE: - Pilotage: is compulsory for ships over 500 GT for all operations in/out within the port;. - Mooring/Unmooring: charges based on GRT; - Tugboats: n 3-1.300 HP; n 1-500 HP; - Cranes: self-moving on rails 1-10/2-13/4-20 tons; - Pontoons: 1-30/1-25/1-60/1-150 tons available; - Refrigerates storage: capacity 1.900 cubicmeters available at Piave quay; - Edible and animal oil storage: capacity 3.000 tons, silos situated in the free point of Palermo, pipe available at Sammuzzo quay; - Water: fresh water available on all quays. - Drydocking / repairs: facilities are available through Cantieri Navali Riuniti. This shipyard lies on an area of abt. 200.000 sq. meters and normally employs over 5.000 workmen. They have 4 building slips, equipped with permanent slipways, two of which can take vessels over 250 meters in lenght; these slips are served by powerful cranes with capacity of 30/40/45 tons each permitting prefabrication ashore structures weighing as much as 70 tons. The plate shop, capable of machining abt 80 tons per day of medium size material, is equipped with the latest types of machines including hydraulic presses, continuous circular cutting machines, multiple drilling ones and hand authomatic welding unit ( which allows simultaneous operation of over 400 welding machines). The engineering works of the shipyards are equipped with all the most modern machinery and permit all kinds of works and total dismantling and reassembling of engines. Graving-dock by 400.000 DWT, length 370 meters, commenced operations on January 1980; also 1 - 140.000 DWT /1 - 34.000 DWT and 1 - 20.000 DWT are available; 1 - 160.000 DWT on plan. COMPETITIVE FOR REPAIRS AND DRYDOCKING IN MEDITERRANEAN. - Containers terminal: Containers will be handled by a modern PERTAINER CRANE max. capacity 35 tons at an outreach of 22 meters plus other 3 by 2 tons each about smaller cranes. The area is being organized at PIER PUNTONE, ST.LUCIA and 4 VENTI; initially 45.000 sq. meters will be available which later on can be brought 120.000 sq. mts.
