There will be some changes in service times of Steveco in December and also in the beginning of January. Independence Day 6.12.2003 On 6th December we are celebrating the Independence Day in our harbours as well as in the whole Finland. The shift work will end in the ports of Kotka and Hamina on Friday 5th December 2003 at 14.30. Only our employees in the uninterrupted shift-work are working normally on 6th December. On Friday the cargo control point in Hamina will close at 14.30 and in Kotka at 16.00 They will start working again on Monday 8th December. The Customs offices in Kotka (Mussalo) and Hamina are working 8 - 16 on 6th December. Christmas All shift work (2-shift and 5-shift) will end on Tuesday 23.12.2003, in Kotka at 22 and in Hamina at 23. They will start working again on Saturday 27.12.2003 at 6. The cargo control point in Hamina and Kotka are working on Tuesday 23.12. 2003 as normal (7.30-19 ) and next time on Saturday 27.12.2003 at 8.30-11. The customs offices in Kotka (Mussalo) and Hamina will be open every day at 8-16. The New Year On Wednesday 31.12.2003 the 2-shift work will end working in Kotka and Hamina at 14.30. They will start working again on Friday 2.1.2004 at 6. Our employees in the uninterrupted shift-work are working normally. The cargo control point in Kotka will end working at 16 and in Hamina at 14.30 on Wednesday 31.12.2003. The customs office in Kotka (Mussalo) will be open on Wednesday 7-16 and 8-16 on Thursday 1.1.2004. In Hamina the office will be open both days 8-16. The Epiphany Monday 5.1.2004 is a normal working day. On Tuesday 6.1.2004 the 2-shift work and cargo control points are not working. The 5-shift is working as normal. Customs offices are open in Kotka (Mussalo) 5.1.2004 at 7-16 and 6.1.2004 at 8-16 and in Hamina 5.1.2004 as normal and 6.1.2004 at 8-16. Accident Exercise at the Port of Mussalo18.09.2003 (26.08.2003) There will be held an accident exercise at the Port of Mussalo on Thursday September 18th, 2003. There will be no admission to the port area during 11.00 - 11.30 a.m. Traffic will be directed to the parking place by the police during the exercise. The accident exercise will be over at 11.30 without further notice. New Office Building in Hamina (27.6.03) On 5 July 2003, Steveco's release services and Steveco Transit will move to the new office building at the gate area of the Port of Hamina. After this date containers and semitrailers will be released at the gate office. Traffic within the Port of Hamina will remain unchanged, i.e. containers for the oil harbour and distribution warehouses continue to be picked up through the container office. Reporting of broken containers and trailers, insertion of seals etc. also continue to be managed at the container office. 1. Arriving at the gate Holders of a permanent pass can drive in through the gate and turn left to the port-side parking area (P) of the office building. Others shall report at the gate office before they can drive into the port area through the gate. 2. Import or transit container leaving from the port and requiring customs clearance If the container is forwarded by Steveco, the driver shall report on the 2nd floor of the gate building at Steveco Transit. The driver shall report at Steveco's gate office with the completed documents and present the customs documents and the acknowledged bill of carriage to the person working at the gate office. The CMR/bill of carriage will remain as a pledge at the gate office, and the person working at the gate office will instruct the driver to the lifting site. After receiving the container, the driver shall go to the customs office for customs clearance. After customs, the driver shall return to Steveco's gate office and present the stamped customs documents, and the driver will obtain the pledged CMR/bill of carriage. After this, the driver may leave the terminal. If the container gives cause for remarks, the driver shall go to the container office to fill in a damage report. 3. Semitrailer leaving from the port The driver shall report at Steveco's gate office and present the collection reference number and the terminal advice. The terminal advice/bill of carriage can also be faxed in advance. The person working at the gate office will instruct the driver to the semitrailer field. If the semitrailer requires customs clearance, the procedure with the documents is the same as under item 2. If the semitrailer gives cause for remarks, the driver shall go to the container office to fill in a damage report. 4. Re-loading The driver shall report at Steveco Transit's office (2nd floor).O The forwarder will instruct the driver to the right re-loading site. Release services and Steveco Transit's forwarders will move into the new facilities in June. Traffic within the Port of Hamina will remain unchanged, i.e. containers for the oil harbour and distribution warehouses continue to be picked up through the container office. Reporting of broken containers and trailers, insertion of seals etc. also continue to be managed at the container office. Most of the procedures at the gate of the port will remain unchanged, and only the location of the service point changes. When arriving at the gate the holders of a permanent pass can drive in through the gate and turn left to the port-side parking area (P) of the office building. Piggyback A transportation arrangement in which truck trailers with their loads are moved by train to a destination. Also known as Rail Pigs. Place of Delivery Place where cargo leaves the care and custody of carrier. Place of Receipt Location where cargo enters the care and custody of carrier. Plimsoll Mark A series of horizontal lines, corresponding to the seasons of the year and fresh or saltwater, painted on the outside of a ship marking the level which must remain above the surface of the water for the vessel's stability. POD Abbreviation for: - Port of Discharge. - Port of Destination. - Proof of Delivery. A document required from the carrier or driver for proper payment. Point of Origin The place at which a shipment is received by a carrier from the shipper. POL Abbreviation for: - Port of Loading. - Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants. Pomerene Act, Also known as (U.S.) Federal Bill of Lading Act of 1916. U.S. federal law enacting conditions by which a B/L may be issued. Penalties for issuing B/L's containing false data include monetary fines and/or imprisonment. Port - Harbor with piers or docks. - Left side of a ship when facing forward. - Opening in a ship's side for handling freight. Port of Call Port where a ship discharges or receives traffic. Port of Entry Port where cargo is unloaded and enters a country. Port of Exit Place where cargo is loaded and leaves a country. Pratique Certificate Lifts temporary quarantine of a vessel; granted pratique by Health Officer. Pre-cooling A process employed in the shipment of citrus fruits and other perishable commodities. The fruit is packed and placed in a cold room from which the heat is gradually extracted. The boxes of fruit are packed in containers that have been thoroughly cooled and transported through to destination without opening the doors. Prepaid (Ppd.) Freight charges paid by the consignor (shipper) prior to the release of the bills of lading by the carrier. Pro Forma A Latin term meaning "For the sake of form." Pro Forma Invoice An invoice provided by a supplier prior to the shipment of merchandise, informing the buyer of the kinds and quantities of goods to be sent, their value, and specifications (weight, size, etc.). Pro Rata A Latin term meaning "In proportion." Project Rate Single tariff item, established to move multiple commodities needed for a specified project, usually construction. Public Service Commission A name usually given to a State body having control or regulation of public utilities. Publishing Agent Person authorized by transportation lines to publish tariffs or rates, rules, and regulations for their account. Pulp Temperature Procedure where carrier tests the temperature of the internal flesh of refrigerated commodities to assure that the temperature at time of shipment conforms to prescribed temperature ranges.
