LITMA Maritime Agency the first private company in Lithuanian Maritime Industry was founded in 10th of December in 1990. The maritime history of Lithuania recorded LITMA as company which supported and assisted the formation of Lithuanian Sea Transportation structures. Shortly after the company was founded it received recognition from it's customers for smooth fulfillment of orders and reliability. Already in beginning of 1991 LITMA got first nominations as ships agent and in 1992 first cargoes were forwarded by the Company. The company, first in the Lithuanian history, opened private RO-RO line Kiel - Klaipeda, shortly after first line with Mediterranean Sea was opened, both successfully are operating nowadays. In 1993 daughter company SETRACONT Truck's Terminal was established. SETRACONT's staff of 15 persons is well professionally educated and today the company offers following services: haulage of cargoes by road with own trucks, storage and handling of containers and cargoes, cars and trucks repairs. LITMA itself today is forwarding 600-800 000 tons of different cargoes yearly, the company is leader of transit bulk cargoes via the port of Klaipeda. In 2000 LITMA celebrated the departure of its 3000th ship where agency services were rendered. Over 6 mln. tons of different transit cargoes via Lithuania have been forwarded by LITMA during 10 years of her activity, such as raw bulk sugar, grain, fertilizers, coal, steels and various general cargoes. About 600-800 thousand tons of cargoes yearly are forwarded by our company. One of the main cargoes is raw sugar in bulk (in 1999 - 500 000 tons). The forwarding this kind of cargo requires from forwarders constant keen attention. Our company is acting as a principal Forwarder for several responsible and technically complicated projects, such as: shipment of oil rig equipment for oil-extracting firm "Minijos Nafta" and "Genciu Nafta" to the Lithuanian oil fields and then back to West European countries. Most cargoes we are being shipped to/from Ukraine, Belorussia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and other CIS countries, West Europe. During 10 years of activity our employees have obtained much practice and knowledge of the International requirements, and this permits us fulfill our Forwarding duties and obligations without claims. The cargoes are handled by Klaipeda stevedoring companies - KLASCO, BEGA, Klaipedos SMELTE - depending on type of cargo and Receivers' requirements. Our Forwarding department consists of 4 main employees. Our principles are - efficiently analyse every received order, to select and propose the most optimal and economical shipment scheme by all means of transport, to arrange a full complex of forwarding services, to trace the cargo movement.
