Welcome to Zodiac Maritime Agencies LTD. Zodiac is an international ship management company specialising in the management of Cape-size, Panamax and Handy-size Bulk Carriers; Reefer vessels, Chemical Tankers, LPG Tankers, Container Ships and Pure Car (Truck) Carriers. Zodiac Maritime Agencies Limited - a United Kingdom Registered Company was established in the mid 1970's. From the beginning, the management's emphasis was to co-ordinate an effective team of professionals all working in unison toward the single goal of ensuring customer satisfaction. Over the years this philosophy has prevailed and the company now has an unrivalled team of long serving highly skilled managers and marine professionals. It is the dedication of this loyal team and its experience in total ship management that has been the key to the company's success. Today Zodiac manages over 120 ships. COMPANY POLICY Zodiac differs from other ship management companies in that it offers a complete package of management services, from co-ordinating and advising on the building and purchase of a vessel through to crewing, operating, maintenance, repair, insurance, legal, supply and assisting the owners in finding and offering them employment for their vessels. RELIABILITY AND REPUTATION The pre-eminence of Zodiac's services and its renowned reputation for reliability is illustrated by its relationship with the world's financial institutions. During the shipping crisis of the mid eighties, banks were forced to repossess numerous ships for which they obviously lacked the expertise to operate. In their search for a solution, Zodiac was approached by 4 major US and European banks each carrying sizeable shipping portfolios. The outcome was to entrust Zodiac, over a period of time, with the management of a varied fleet of repossessed tonnage. Not only did Zodiac run the ships efficiently but it also ran them profitably and to the benefit of the banks. The repossessed ships were eventually sold upon the upturn in the market. This successful business arrangement with the banks proved to be of immense value. The vessels managed by Zodiac on behalf of our principals now include a significant number of United Kingdom registered vessels. QUALITY ASSURANCE Zodiac is committed to providing the highest possible management standards and to this end, the company works in full compliance with the ISO 9002 standard. Zodiac was one of the first ship management companies to be certified to ISO 9002, obtaining certification in January 1994. The commitment from the top management has ensured that this is not a mere paperwork exercise, the benefits experienced from working within a structured and streamlined organisation have enabled the company to provide a more professional and reliable service to our customers. SAFETY MANAGEMENT Following on from our success with the ISO 9002 programme, the company was ideally placed to satisfy the requirements of the new International Safety Management Code (ISM Code). Zodiac received the Document of Compliance for the office-based activities in July 1996, (this was two years ahead of the required implementation date and indicates the importance that the management has given to this area). All of the vessels under Zodiac's management received their Safety Management Certificates well in advance of the statutory requirement. ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE In September 2001 Zodiac became one of the few ship managers to achieve compliance and certification for EMS ISO14001 Environmental Management System. The Managers set demanding environmental targets for all aspects of the companies activities that have an environmental impact. CREWING The company uses its own representatives located in key areas of the world to co-ordinate manning which is seen as an essential component in delivering a quality service to its customers. With minor exceptions, crews are supplied from the main areas of Turkey, Eastern Europe, Korea, and Philippines. Our representative offices are controlled and integrated within the company quality systems and hold ISO9000:2000 certification. Such close control at the recruitment stage ensures only suitably qualified personnel are supplied to the vessels. Many of the sea staff are long term employees, many whom have served on ships managed by Zodiac in excess of 25 years. Several officers and cadets have developed their careers by following in their fathers or other family members footsteps. TRAINING Training for sea staff is over and above that required by STCW. Zodiac Maritime Agencies Ltd operate a training programme onboard and ashore under the direction of an office based training manager. Safety training superintendents travel throughout the fleet to carry out on board training and exercises, in accordance with documented training procedures. Extensive use is made of computer based training for on both on board training and competence assessment. CADETS - TRAINING FOR THE FUTURE The company has its own cadet training programme with a yearly intake of cadets in excess of 100. The candidates coming mainly from Bulgaria, Romania, Latvia and Russia. In 2001 the cadet training scheme was expanded to include UK cadets. Zodiac is now one the largest suppliers of training berths for UK cadets. CHARTERERS Zodiac is active in the market looking for and offering customers employment opportunities. In this regard Zodiac has built up an impressive list of quality charterers with whom they are in regular contact. Customer satisfaction is a key objective of our management.
