Over the course of its nearly 150 year history, Moran has grown from a company whose founding mission was to provide docking services to sailing ships into a major corporate provider of maritime services. The cornerstone of this growth has been a long standing reputation for reliable, efficient service, achieved through a combination of first rate people and first class equipment. The company has steadily expanded and diversified, and today it offers a broad range of capabilities and serves the most ports of any operator in the eastern United States. Moran operates within three primary areas of business activity: Ship docking and general towing, in and around the ports we serve Marine transportation of petroleum and dry bulk products Contract towing and specialty towing The company currently owns and operates 96 tugs and 30 barges. To ensure the efficiency and growth of its fleet, Moran maintains an ongoing program of high tech tractor tug construction. Its newest vessels especially its Z-drive tractor tugs use state-of-the-art propulsion technology to enhance the fleet's versatility and environmental compliance. Moran serves 13 ports, each with its own localized management, dispatch and engineering functions; all are operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Its ports of operation include: Portsmouth, New Hampshire Albany, New York New York, New York Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Baltimore, Maryland Norfolk, Virginia Charleston, South Carolina Savannah and Brunswick, Georgia, and Fernandina , Florida Jacksonville, Florida Miami, Florida Port Arthur, Beaumont & Orange, Texas Moran customers include the world's leading shipping lines; energy and power generating companies; petroleum and dry bulk barge companies; minerals and commodity corporations; government agencies, and the United States Navy. A significant percentage of the company's customer relationships are long term, with some taking the form of sole source agreements and joint ventures. In addition to its routine operations, Moran is known for its ability to successfully plan and execute exceptionally large, complicated and demanding projects. The company's experience, technological expertise and favorable relationships with government and regulatory agencies are crucial assets in answering these needs. Moran maintains a powerful tug fleet, totaling over 275,000 hp. The fleet list below indicates each tug s horsepower and its home port; drive types are also shown, denoted by the symbols next to each listing. Moran offers the right tug for most any application. Ship Docking and Harbor Services Moran's ship docking services are the core business of its port operations. Its tugs assist all types of commercial and military vessels, from passenger liners and freighters to aircraft carriers, with docking and undocking. The company is contracted by vessel owners, operators and their agents, on a spot or long-term basis. Some of Moran's relationships with ship docking customers predate World War II. The company also provides a variety of harbor-based local towing services, including: Lighterage Barge towing Marine equipment towing Assistance to construction projects in and around navigable waterways Dredge tending and towing Towing for local, state, and federal governments and agencies Local safety and rescue operations Moran has always maintained the largest, most capable, and most powerful fleets in each of its local ports of operation. The company is committed to continuing this tradition through the efforts of its ongoing tractor tug construction program. Moran's contract and offshore towing operations are centered in and around the United States, Canada, Central America and South America, but have also been conducted in Europe, Africa, Asia and Greenland. This global versatility is made possible by the company's practice of methodically partnering with its customers in the planning, engineering, administration and execution of tows. Moran has the resources and personnel to tow virtually anything, anywhere in the world, safely and expeditiously. Some of the cargoes its tugs have towed include: container barges for domestic liner services; grain bound for African, Caribbean, and Latin American destinations; cement; and nuclear fuel, in cooperation and compliance with energy utilities and the Government. Its tugs have also assisted in major construction projects. Moran maintains the largest fleet of high-horsepower tugs of any company based along the Eastern, Southern and Gulf coasts of the U. S. The men and women who operate these tugs are backed by a shoreside operations staff that works around the clock. By virtue of these assets, Moran can provide the fastest response of any company in its geographic areas of operation to an emergency call or time-sensitive request for backup. Moran operates an extensive fleet of dry bulk and inland hopper barges to fit most any transportation need. Its subsidiary, Seaboard Barge Corporation, operates a fleet of petroleum barges. The vessels are meticulously maintained to help ensure safe and expeditious transportation of your cargo.
