EGON OLDENDORFF and associated companies employ around 3,300 people in shipping and shipbuilding and the holding company has been family-held since its foundation in 1921. Around 60 million tons of bulk and unitized cargo are carried each year. Our subsidiary owner/operator OLDENDORFF CARRIERS usually operate around 200 ships, abt 70 of which are owned. The owned fleet has an average age of 10 years and contains bulkcarriers, conveyor belt selfunloaders, multipurpose ships and open hatch box shaped vessels. Egon Oldendorff OLDENDORFF CARRIERS is based in Lubeck / Germany and has moved to a new waterfront office in 1999. It was built on top of the Radisson SAS Senator Hotel, which is also owned and operated. Henning Oldendorff, at the helm since the beginning of the 80s, when he was 26 and his father died, values the company's independence, as quick decision making without having to ask "outsiders" is vital in the cyclical shipping industry. Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft OLDENDORFF CARRIERS is an integrated shipowner / operator, moving bulk and unitised cargoes worldwide. Special and growing emphasis is put on parcelling and selfunloading. You can see a summary of our cargo services in TRADES, where you will also find a description of our growing transshipment and bulk logistics activities. We are striving to be close to the cargo and our ultimate customers, the charterers, traders, shippers, receivers and industrial clients. We have to earn and maintain a reputation of reliability and solid standing. In todays "chaotic" global economy, we will be the reliable carriers that our clients are looking for. Commercial activities are conducted from the headquarter and fleet centre in Germany as well as 10 satellite offices in Vancouver, Melbourne, Jakarta, Shanghai, New York, Houston, Bombay, Singapore, Cape Town and Rio de Janeiro. There are two joint ventures, i.e. the conveyor belt selfunloader pool with CSL International in Boston and our participation in Atlantica Shipping AS in Oslo. Anniversary Book The fully enclosed shipbuilding facilities of FLENSBURGER Schiffbau-Gesellschaft were acquired in March 1990. For the first 15 years until 2004, we have booked around 65 contracts worth about DM 3.0 billion for the yard, including around 15 innovative between 2,700 and 4,000 lane metre Ro-Ro vessels with up to 23 kn speed. EGON OLDENDORFF celebrated its 80th Anniversary in February 2001, about 17 years after the founder died on 9th May 1984. He had started the firm in Hamburg from humble beginnings in 1921 and built up a respectable fleet twice, before and after World War II. Henning Oldendorff characterises him as having been conservative and bold at the same time, cost conscious down to the detail, but generous, when he sensed a rewarding business opportunity: "He had the courage to go his own way and did not listen to the faint-hearted. But he was cautious enough to steer a prudent course for the long-term benefit of the Company and his employees. All of us, whether aboard or ashore, will continue to live up to the founder's standards of commitment and responsibility, which had always been high." The rejuvenated fleet may have changed its face over the years, shipbuilding, several cargo trades and bulk logistics were added to the activities, but Egon Oldendorff's spirit lives on.
