"K" Line America's Customer Service Department is split into two areas, Import and Export Services. Customers in North America use one 800 number, (800) 609 3221 to call "K" Line America and then select the desired area of assistance from the menu. When calling you are greeted by a phone menu and may choose (1) for EXPORT Services or (2) for IMPORT Services. You will then be connected with a Services representative. Selection (3) will connect you to a Refrigerated Cargo representative. Selection (4) will connect you to a Car Carrier representative. Import Services Import Services provides value added service to "K" Line America's import customers. We are staffed with highly trained representatives who understand "K" Line America's import markets and who can provide accounts with the personal touch they desire. Import Customer Service is available to assist with any import question. We provide customers with arrival information, cargo tracing, in bond details and coordinate expedited service requests with our National Transportation Group. We have resources to assist with problem resolution including access to terminal systems and our Intermodal Management System. Customer Service is staffed Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 9:00 PM (ET). Our West Coast Import Team is responsible for many of the inbound functions for the ports of Long Beach, Los Angeles, Oakland, Seattle, Tacoma and Portland. This team works closely with the inbound logistics and transportation departments located in our West Coast discharge port offices. Daily tasks include coordinating changes in destinations and customs clearance points with our terminals and inbound staff, last free day notification to customers, T&E processing and TASCO import functions. The team is staffed Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM (ET) to accommodate our West Coast customers and the port offices hours of operation. The Import Documentation Team is responsible for the review and edit of our inbound vessel manifests. Each bill of lading is reviewed for customs clear point exceptions, accuracy of port codes and clear description of goods. Customer codes are applied to consignee and notify parties. Once the manifest review is complete, the vessel file is transmitted via EDI to U.S. Customs. For more than two decades, "K" Line has improved and expanded their cargo transportation services between the Pacific Rim, Europe, the Mediterranean, and North America. Stable and Dependable Services - Containership Business has had the distinction of being the centerpiece of "K" LINE s global sea-transportation services. Providing stable and dependable services, this business has been continuously developing, expanding and being upgraded, with the present global network offering coverage around the world. By keeping abreast of changing business circumstances and in order to meet shipper requirements, we are also constantly reinforcing our company s international competitiveness. Stability and Speed - Against the backdrop of the recent increase in global trade, there comes more need for stability and speed in container transport service. To cope with such customer needs, "K" LINE has been carrying out the planned deployment of a series of 13 brand new 5,500-TEU containerships with a speed of 25 knots. They have been deployed in the Pacific Northwest/Asia/Europe service route. This deployment also signifies that we have finished constructing the new East/West trunk line service framework. Completion of the trunk line makes it possible to achieve an increase in callings Chinese ports and to significantly reduce transit times. We have placed an additional order for 8 new 4,000-TEU Panamax type containerships that are to be delivered between 2004 and 2005. And furthermore, we have placed an order for four 8,000-TEU type and five 5,000-TEU type that will be delivered between 2006 and 2007. As a matter of fact, we are confident that we are able to satisfy customer needs with the best quality service available anywhere on the globe. Expanded Services - Since early in 2000, "K" LINE has been improving its Asia/U.S. East Coast, Asia/Mediterranean, and Mediterranean/U.S. East Coast services in addition to Asia/U.S. West Coast and Asia/North Europe services by developing tie-ups with Yangming Marine Transport Corp. (Taiwan) and COSCO Container Lines (PRC). In September 2001, Hanjin Shipping Co., Ltd. (Korea)/Senator Lines GmbH (Germany) were added to the preceding 3-line tie-ups and all parties have now reached an agreement on working toward the forging of a new and strengthened alliance. The CKYH alliance has become closer and deeper in mutual relationship- COSCO Container Lines, "K"LINE, Yangming Marine Transport Corp. and Hanjin Shipping Co., Ltd. Since the beginning of 2003, we have been providing 3-sailings-per-week service in the remarkably expanding trade between Asia and U.S. East Coast. Similarly, improvement has been attained through optimum positioning of the fleet of each alliance member. In the meantime, we have been successful in rationalizing the Atlantic trade, circumstances of which had been worsening. In the China trade, we have increased the frequency of direct calls at ports in China that is developing a great deal: 57 direct calls per week. This achievement has enabled us to exceed services offered by other competitive companies and groups. Terminals - In container transportation, it is the terminals that are the gateway linking the sea with land, and "K" LINE has four terminals exclusively for containers. In North America, a group company is performing efficient port business, managing their own container terminals. More precisely, International Transportation Service, Inc. (ITS) situated at Long Beach, a main gate port to U.S. West Coast implemented expansion of its terminal and renewed a host of IT-related equipment, succeeding in occupying 240 acres including a newly-built deep-draft berth. With this innovation and expansion in place, ITS is expected to contribute to prompt cargo delivery. Advancing IT Technology - Along with the various other innovations, the shipping industry is required to successfully ride the wave of rapidly advancing Information Technology (IT), and "K" Line is actively endeavoring to introduce and develop the most updated IT services. Our recognition of this obligation is exemplified by the information being provided on the Internet, by our acquiring membership in Bolero Net ahead of other domestic rivals and by our active participation in EDI (TEDI.) "K" Line has consistently been the leader in its field, revolutionizing the marine transport of vehicular cargo. Pioneer - "K" Line is a pioneer in having put the first large car carrier into the market, with safety and speed as the core of our marine transport services. "K" Line first introduced its multi-purpose automobile and bulk carriers in 1968, starting with Toyota Maru No. 1. in 1970, Toyota Maru No. 10 was placed into service as Japan s first specialized car carrier, so-called PCC (Pure Car Carrier). K-Line's bulk-carrier service has been developing year-after- year. Special Carriers Demand for thermal coal by power plants in Japan has been on the increase year-after-year. What is a Bill of Lading (B/L)? A B/L is a document that establishes the terms of a contract between a shipper and a carrier under which freight is to be moved between specified points for a specified charge. It serves as a document of title, a contract of carriage, and a receipt for goods. This document is usually required in order for the buyer to take possession of the shipment. Bills of Lading may be negotiable or non-negotiable . Bills that are consigned "to order" of a named party may be transferred by endorsement and delivery in the same manner as a check. What is the difference between a Negotiable and Non-Negotiable B/L? A Non-Negotiable B/L A Non-Negotiable B/L – also known as a straight B/L , is made out to a named consignee with the absence of the term "to order". The consignee named in the bill is the owner of the goods. A Negotiable B/L or "to order" B/L is a bill which can be bought, sold or traded while goods are in transit, or used for credit transactions. The SED is an official document that a U.S. exporter is obliged to submit to Federal authorities whenever merchandise is shipped from the United States to a foreign destination or certain offshore points. The SED serves a two-fold purpose: Primarily, it is used by the U.S. Bureau of Census for the compilation of statistics on U.S. foreign trade.
