We are proud of the fact that for the past five years we have met or exceeded this tough criterion. A typical recruiting season consists of some 50 recruiters visiting the campus bringing with them some 300 plus job positions. Considering our average graduating class consists of just under 200 students, it is not surprising that many students are faced with the tough decision of which job to accept! Massachusetts Maritime Academy cadets are hired by top employers largely because they have gained hands on training thought their cadet shipping and cooperative educational experiences. Co-op/Internship and cadet shipping experiences combine relevant work practices with academic studies to offer the best opportunities for personal and career development. Cadets test their skills in a variety of environments while undergraduates. They discover their strengths, and understand the rich connections between theory and practice. Through the co-op and internship experience, cadets develop a broader, more practical knowledge basis in both academic and professional environments. Both industry and education are enriched through an ongoing exchange of people and ideas. Some cadets may be disappointed about not going to New Orleans but this means that we can now make San Juan. This means a port every weekend from here on out and that will make sea term go by much faster. Today is going to be considered a normal day up until 1600 when Division II will take over for in port watch and the other 2 divisions will be able to go on liberty after a walk through inspection of the berthing areas. I am sure cadets will be making a phone call to their parents and girlfriends/ boyfriends ASAP. 1/C Nathan White The element of surprise has been no stranger to any of us during sea term 2005. So I'm assuming it is no surprise to any of you that our liberty port was changed literally over night. About an hour or so after sending yesterday's e-mail with the excitement of New Orleans in the air, the decision was made to make Florida a 4-day port of call. This meant that a Captain's inspection would have to be held last night with only several hours of notice. The rates wasted no time cleaning and disinfecting their rooms to make them inspection ready. The only thing that was not called for during this inspection was waxing the decks. The rates passed just fine and then it was onto the holds. I took some pictures of the hold inspections and one thing I noticed as I walked down there was that the A/C was nonexistent. It works just fine above deck. So needless to say, everyone down there looked a little too warm. The stress of the inspection did not help. Their inspections went very well. The ship's cadet adjutants now had another hard challenge to tackle. 1/C LaMonica and 1/C Moriarty were up all night changing the upcoming week's watch bills for all the cadets. This is not an easy task. This weeks bills need to change to in port bills and the weekend bills need to change to training, watch, and maintenance rotations. I give both of them a lot of credit. They have been working very hard. Division 2 has watch today so Nate and I will be on dry land some time this evening. We will be sending our pictures to the website as soon as we can. Expect some phone calls from your cadets in Divisions 1 & 3 later on this evening. 1/C Monica Govey Today's Questions Geography ? Math ? Science ? History ?
