Salvage services have been rendered by tug Porin Karhu under Lloyds Open Form with salvors Alfons Hakans OY AB and the vessel has been towed to Rauma, arriving 19.20 local time, March 4, where services were terminated. The salvage security demand has been set at 2.5% CIF, to be lodged in London with the Corporation of Lloyds. General Average has also been declared and Adjusters Stichling Hahn Hilbrich appointed. Click Here CEEMIS Northern Mermaid (Bahamas) 27th March 2004 1993 built, 9829mt vessel Northern Mermaid was disabled after problems with its electric cooling water pumps, approximately 400 miles from Lands End. The vessel on a voyage from Puerto Bolivar, Ecuador for Hamburg had passed Panama Canal Mar 16. Tug Neftagaz 57, out of Mounts Bay rendered assistance, supplying spares early March 29 at lat 46 52N, long 16 39W. Click Here CEEMIS Ming Green (LBR) 31st March 2004 2001 built, 64,254gt container vessel Ming Green en route from Singapore, Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong for Northern European ports including Rotterdam and Hamburg, has experienced main engine failure whilst at anchor in Rotterdam Roads. The vessel is due to be towed into Rotterdam for repairs, and whilst at present the terms of the salvage and tow are unknown, if CEEMIS may be of assistance to Underwriters in respect of cargo involved with this casualty, we would be delighted to receive your instructions. Click Here CEEMIS Thanh Da (Vietnam) 31st March 2004 1972 built, 1066gt general cargo vessel Thanh Da, capsized and sank in Singapore waters off Sentosa Island, following loading cargo at Jurong Port. At approximately 10.25 the vessel began taking in water and subsequently sank. The master and crew were rescued by passing workboat. If we may be of assitance to Underwriters in respect of cargo involved with this casualty, we would be delighted to receive your instructions. Click Here CEEMIS MSC CARLA(Panama) 1st April 2004 1986 built, 35,953gt container vessel MSC Carla, enroute to Rotterdam, put into Vigo due to smoke observed coming from a container in the hold, when 120 miles off the coast. CO2 system was activated and flooded hold. Apparently, the fire was generated from a container of vegetal coal which self combusted. vessel is now being inspected at Vigo. MSC Carla had called at Buenos Aires, Rio Grande, Santos, Rio de Janeiro and Tenerife, from where she sailed 30th March. If we may be of assitance to Underwriters in respect of cargo involved with this casualty, we would be delighted to receive your instructions. Click Here CEEMIS Lt Peace(Panama) 25th April 2004 2001 built, 17,800gt Container vessel Lt Peace, ran aground in Manila Bay. Refloating efforts are scheduled for 28th April. The vessel, which sailed from Singapore on 20 April, arrived in Manila 23rd April and departed 24th April bound for Kaohsiung. Whilst there is no indication at present regarding Salvage & General Average security and in which regard we will keep you informed, in the meantime, if we may be of assistance to Underwriters in respect of cargo involved with this casualty, we would be delighted to receive your instructions. Click Here CEEMIS Fei Yun He (China) 23rd April 2004 2000 built, 20,569gt container vessel Fei Yun He, with 1,100 TEU, collided with bulk Zhen Fen 5 in Yangtze River whilst en rout from Shanghai to Long Island Water traffic in the Yangtze River was halted for three hours whilst the vessels blocked the deep-water fairway following the incident when the Fei Yun He suddenly lost control just after midnight. Whilst there is presently no indication of any requirement for Salvage & General Average security, in which regard we shall keep you informed, if in the meantime we may be of assistance to Underwriters in respect of cargo involved with this casualty, we would be delighted to receive your instructions. Click Here CEEMIS Cape Africa (Taiwan) 27th April 2004 Bulk vessel Cape Africa, Brazil for Far East, laden with cargo of iron ore is battling through heavy seas 500km south-west of Cape Town with an extensive hole in the forward section of its hull. Salvage tug, Smit Amandia arrived to take the vessel in tow. South African Maritime Safety Authority have indicated that the casualty will be towed to 112kn off the Western Cape coast to allow inspection and to assess whether it would be safe for the ship to come closer inshore. It is not clear how the ship became damaged. The tow will take approximately 60 hours to reach the position where inspection will take place The position regarding Salvage & General Average security has yet to be established, but If we may be of assistance to Underwriters in respect of cargo involved with this casualty, we would be delighted to receive your instructions. Click Here CEEMIS Princess of the Pacific (Philippines) 24th June 2004 1982 built, 4994gt interisland Ro/Ro, Princess of the Pacific, with 216 passengers and 87 containers on board was reported stranded on Nogas Island after the vessel reported engine trouble. Salvage services are being rendered by Malayan Towage & Salvage under Lloyds Open Form, and the Salvors have indicated that the engine room is flooded. Efforts to refloat and repair the vessel are being hampered by the effects of typhoon "Mindulle". The extent of Salvage & General Average security has yet to be established, but If we may be of assistance to Underwriters in respect of cargo involved with this casualty, we would be delighted to receive your instructions. Sandra Azul, Busan for Yokohama, off Yokohama breakwater. Salvage services have been rendered by Subtech Diving and Marine Salvage under Lloyds Open Form. Salvage services appear to be ongoing, however once the security demand is made, Guarantees will be required to be lodged in London with the Corporation of Lloyds. Click Here ** Update 12th July 2004** Since signing of LOF contract, good progress has been made. The vessel has been turned into deeper water to minimise risk of bottom damage, but due to decreasing depth of water due to spring tides it has been necessary to lighten the vessel by removal of cargo and bunkers. This operation is now underway and tugs have been engaged to receive lightened cargo and bunkers. CEEMIS Milena (Antigua & Barbuda) 6th November 2004 We have been made aware of 13,700 dwt container vessel MILENA, grounded on 6th November, 1.1km north-east of Raffles Lighthouse, Singapore. Initial efforts to refloat the vessel failed as a result of which Lloyds Open Form Salvage contract was signed by the Master with Smit Marine and Semco Salvage. The vessel, en route from Singapore to Mumbai, India is loaded with 574 containers, and the ship is said to be in a stable condition, without any signs of oil pollution. Refloating operation are ongoing, however once these are completed there will be a requirement to lodge Salvage Security with Corporation of Lloyds in order to arrange release of cargo to Consignees.
