The onshore base lies in approximately Latitude 28 Deg 25' North Longitude 48 Deg 31' East, and within a distance of 7 miles (13 KM) offshore the company has two four-buoy berths and two single-buoy-mooring system berths for loading tankers, and also an anchorage are for dry-cargo ships. Outside of this distance there is an anchorage area for tankers. These berths and anchorage areas are situated in the territorial waters of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Local Standard Time at Ras Al Khafji is G.M.T. + 3 hours throughout the year. The oil tankers anchorage area is designated within 1 mile radius from Latitude 28 Deg 29.5' North Longitude 48 Deg 39.0' East. Two light-buoys (No. 9 & No.10) mark the western limit and southern limit of this area respectively. The depth of water varies from 70 feet (21.34 metres) to 77 feet (23.47 metres) with a good holding ground of clayey mud. Oil tankers awaiting berthing should anchor as close as possible to these buoys. Pilotage is compulsory for arriving tanker's berthing and unberthing at Ras Al Khafji and a Company's Mooring Master will board the tanker at the anchorage area to take her to her assigned berth. The company's Mooring Master shall advise the tanker's Master on the maneuvers and operations relating to berthing, bunkering, connecting and disconnecting the loading hoses.
