DFDS Tor Line is part of DFDS A/S founded in 1866 and listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. DFDS Tor Line has subsidiaries in Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Latvia and Lithuania and recently DFDS Tor Line has acquired AB Lisco Baltic Service and 66 % of DFDS Lys-Line AS. 2,100 persons are employed at sea and ashore and 53 Ro-Ro, Lo-Lo, multipurpose and Ro-Pax vessels are operated on eight bridges in 19 market areas. About 70 % of the volumes are transported on trailers; other cargo carriers are used for "bulk customers" in the industrial shipping logistics transport system. DFDS Tor Line transports a total of app. 9.9 million lane metres yearly and the turnover is some DKK 3 billion.   Bridges for trade in Europe When building bridges for trade in Europe, DFDS Tor Line focuses on high reliability and frequent sailings in accordance with our customers' demands. DFDS Tor Line is growing both organically and through acquisitions enabling us to offer comprehensive transport solutions in Northern Europe.   Five general transport systems Different types of cargo require individual equipment, handling and service. Consequently, DFDS Tor Line has developed five general transport systems designed to satisfy the market's requirements by utilising the Ro-Ro technology in full: the Trailer system, the MAFI/Cassette system, the Automotive system, the Lift-unit system and a system for handling Special Cargo.   Shipping Logistics In addition to the five general transport systems, DFDS Tor Line is under the heading `DFDS Shipping Logistics' working closely with industrial customers, for whom the shipping element represents a major part of the supply chain. The objective is to achieve cost reductions and service improvements in logistics that benefit these customers, giving them a competitive edge in the market.   Customer benefit - a central concept In order to achieve the greatest possible customer benefit, DFDS Tor Line focuses on technical and IT development. In 2002 we took delivery of two new Ro-Pax vessels, and we are currently building six new state-of-the-art Ro-Ro vessels. We are constantly developing new systems for handling and securing cargo and we are continuously adapting our organisation to new and rational ways of working. Our new information systems along with the above-mentioned items will facilitate and simplify the way of working and help create additional value for our customers.   InfoBridge Transport covers both the transportation of cargo and that of information. An efficient flow of information is a prerequisite of an efficient transport system and will become even more important in the future. In order to simplify the information flow, we have built another "Bridge" - InfoBridge - which connects DFDS Tor Line with our customers.   Quality Most of our core operations have already been ISO-9000 certified several years ago. Industrial cargoes are carried on cassettes or mafis. Other cargoes are carried on trailers, containers and flats. Third-party owned equipment including tank containers and bulk containers are also accommodated. AngloBridge has furthermore an impressive history of carrying cars, trucks and bus chassis as well as other wheeled equipment.   Added port services In Immingham, AngloBridge offers supplementary value added services in DFDS Nordic Terminal. This terminal offers various port services such as rail connection, handling and covered warehousing, refrigerated storage, hard standage area for wheeled traffic and trailer repair and maintenance services to trailer customers. With two weekly departures both ways, Baltic Bridge is the obvious choice for transports between Denmark and the Baltic states as well as Russia and the former Russian republics (the CIS-states). The combination of BalticBridge with BritanniaBridge - our traffic between Denmark and the UK - offers the perfect corridor for transit cargo between the UK and Eastern Europe.   Ice-free port to Eastern Europe Our port of choice in Lithuania is Klaipeda, the largest ice-free port in the Eastern part of the Baltic Sea, securing access throughout the year. Klaipeda has a strategic position offering direct highway connection to the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius and further east to Minsk (Belarus) and Moscow (Russia), north to Riga (Latvia) and Tallin (Estonia), as well as south to Kijev (Ukraine). Klaipeda is one of the largest transit ports for Russian cargo, both by road and by rail. The Lithuanian haulage industry offers expertise in standards and regulations related to Russian/CIS trade.   Copenhagen/Fredericia - Klaipeda DFDS Tor Line offers two weekly sailings both ways connecting Klaipeda with the Danish ports of Copenhagen and Fredericia. Trailers and 20'/40' containers including reefer units, general cargo, project cargoes, heavy lifts, vans and agricultural machinery are accepted for shipment on board the Ro-Ro vessel.   24-hour service in secured area The terminals in all ports are fully equipped with all facilities and efficiently operated with the highest level of security. The Klaipeda terminal is open all year round and has a 24-hour service. It is situated in a secured area, served by both customs and police authorities. The new service will be operated by two large Ro-Ro vessels with daily sailings in each direction (except Sunday) and with accommodation for 12 drivers.   All types of Ro-Ro and container traffic are carried, including driver accompanied vehicles, new cars and trucks, heavy plant and machinery.   In Immingham the vessel will call at DFDS Nordic Terminal which has its own rail link, extensive warehousing and car storage compound. In 2006 Nordic Terminal will be extended from 500,000 to 700,000 sq.m. and the present four berths will be supplemented with three new riverside Ro-Ro berths with a capacity for vessels up to 230 m and 10 m draft. In Zeebrugge, BelgoBridge will call at the Dart Line terminal in Wielingen Dock in the outer harbour which has its own rail terminal with connection to Germany and Italy.   The Dart Line terminal has efficient gate in/out procedures allowing fast turnaround for trucks delivering or picking up trailers/containers. Furthermore our customers will have access to the South of England via Dart Line to/from Dartford on the very same terminal. DFDS AutoLogistics DFDS Tor Line specialises in the transport of cars and trucks and carries over 300,000 vehicles per annum on its various routes. In Immingham DFDS operates its own acre/200,000 sq.m. car storage compound and provides refitting and value added services. In Zeebrugge DFDS cooperates with CTO regarding Autologistics services. From our own combined passenger and freight terminal in Esbjerg on the Danish west coast, we depart three-four times weekly for Harwich and seven times weekly for Immingham - and vice versa. Esbjerg - Harwich In Harwich we call at Parkeston Quay, which is ranked the third busiest port in size for Ro-Ro freight traffic to and from the UK. We have three-four sailings per week in each direction. DFDS Tor Line has introduced a new concept on the North Sea - a ro-pax vessel, which is a combined freight and passenger vessel. This gives us the opportunity to take a high number of drivers on each departure. The service is very attractive, since transit time is only 17 hours. The Esbjerg-Harwich service was established back in 1880 and has been one of our key routes on the North Sea ever since. Esbjerg - Immingham This service provides an excellent linkage between Denmark/Scandinavia and the heavy industrial areas of the Midlands and Northern England. Three Ro-Ro freight vessels with accommodation for 12 drivers each offer seven weekly departures both ways. Immingham is the central port in the DFDS Tor Line network and is also used for our other services to and from The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and Norway. With Immingham as a central hub for our ro-ro network we provide a wide variety of services for all kinds of unitised cargo. Cuxhaven - Immingham From the East coast of England this service links the industrial regions of the Midlands and the Northern part of the UK with Northern Germany (Cuxhaven). Two Ro-Ro freight vessels - each with accommodation facilities for 12 drivers - perform five sailings per week in each direction. Cuxhaven is favourably located for handling of unitised cargo, approximately 100 km downstream from Hamburg at the estuary of the river Elbe - one of the most frequented shipping lanes of the world. The terminals in Cuxhaven and Immingham are rail connected and have all modern facilities for handling and storage of different types of cargo. Cuxhaven - Harwich This service is operated with a passenger ship with a cargo capacity of 600 lane metres. Three-four departures per week connect Northern Germany with the southern part of the UK. Four large vessels are deployed on EuroBridge and five different transport systems are offered to our customers - shipment of trailers, new cars and trucks, lift-units, cassettes and special wheeled cargoes. Vessels are loaded and discharged mainly during the night, and hauliers and trailer operators benefit from this sailing schedule - a fact that raises the productivity of their equipment. The total cargo capacity well exceeds 120,000 trailer spaces per year plus cargo space allocated to new cars. The high speed of the four vessels employed have contributed to the overall high reliability of EuroBridge. We have achieved our 95% precision target on arrivals.   Calls to/from Brevik Recently we introduced an additional ro-ro service on the EuroBridge route. Sassnitz (Mukran) - Klaipeda With this service Lisco offers frequent departures by a combined railway and Ro-Pax ferry departing every other day connecting the railway network in Western Europe with the railway networks in Lithuania and Russia. At the Combi Terminal in Sassnitz railway cargoes for Russia are transhipped onto Russian wagons. A wide variety of cargoes are accepted, including railway wagons, mafis, trailers, wheeled machinery and driver accompanied vehicles. Kiel - Klaipeda On this service two Ro-Pax ferries offer six departures per week in each direction. The sailing time is only 20 hours. The service between Rotterdam and Immingham has undergone dramatic development in recent years and is now served by two large 2,200 lane metre Ro-Ro vessels with a service speed of 18,5 knots. Today, we offer six sailings per week in each direction. The vessels have cabin accommodation for 12 drivers and carry all types of Ro-Ro and container cargoes. We operate our own terminals in both ports and have the capability to handle hazardous goods and refrigerated units as well as heavy-lift plant and machinery. In Immingham DFDS Nordic Terminal has its own rail and steel terminals and extensive warehousing of 30,000 square metres. DFDS Nordic Terminal covers about 480,000 square metres and has a car storage compound for 6,000 cars. New Ro-Ro terminal In spring 2003, DFDS Tor Line opened a new 200,000 square metre Ro-Ro terminal in Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. With a quay-wall of 500 metres and a draft of over 12 metres, this terminal is able to handle even the largest Ro-Ro vessels. The terminal includes facilities for transhipment/ distribution, storage and equipment maintenance. Its prime location - close to the sea entrance surrounded by the main deep-sea operators - gives this new Maasvlakte terminal all the ingredients to fulfil an important future strategic role. Ijmuiden - Newcastle DFDS maintains a daily combined passenger and freight Ro-Ro service between Ijmuiden (near Amsterdam) and Newcastle. Two modern cruise ferry vessels carrying trailers as well as other types of wheeled units are used on this route.
