Data received from the PC will be displayed on the Palm processor screen in digital (instrumental data and alarms) or graphic (M.O.B., ship point, Target Waypoint , etc.) format. If the Palm processor is equipped with detail nautical maps the PuntoNave will be displayed inside the cartographic data. If the Target Waypoint is modified on the Palm processor, the change will be immediately transmitted to the PC and the new datum will impact sailing (e.g. it will be transmitted to the Auto Pilot). Similarly, new markers set on the Palm processor during sailing will complement the PC database and vice versa. The following are needed to operate the integrated PC/Palm pilot system: The Personal Computer (desk top or portable) with: SW&N Sail Ware or Fish Ware navigation software; Bluetooth antenna; SW&N Palm Connect software module Navionics " Gold" or C-Map " NT + " electronic maps ; connection to the ship s instruments (GPS, etc.). SailWare, thanks to the collaboration of experienced racing sailors, has developed an highly sophisticated package that helps crews in planning tactics, sail trimming and improving boat performance, as it is capable of producing complex solutions at a glance, based on previous vessel performance and weather data. SailWare RACE32C provides polar tables as well as graphic displays of the best range of use of the sails, helping the tactician to find cross-over conditionsand call for sail change. Polars, i.e. boat speeds that may be achieved for a given true wind speed and direction in specific sea conditions, are used for several purposes: by comparing the boat's speed with its target speed, the crew can quickly know if they are getting the best out of the boat at any time; also, to perform any kind of predictive navigation calculations, such as the course to steer on a given leg. Although polars can be derived by calculation from design drawings, or by scaling the polars from a similar boat, the results are unlikely to be sufficiently accurate.
