Committee members are active participants in both US Sailing and YRA training events. New Race Committee members are always welcome regardless of experience. The senior members provide both orientation and on-the-job training to the new committee members. Golden Gate Yacht Club is the organizing authority for two popular Bay Area regattas: Manuel Fagundes Seaweed Soup Regatta and its 9 race Friday Night Beer Can Series . In its 34th year, the Seaweed Soup Regatta attracted over 90 entries this season. Each year the Race Committee manages the two Club regattas along with YRA sponsored races for WBRA, SSS, ODCA, and OYRA. This year, GGYC will host and provide race management services for the 3rd Annual Catalina 34 Regatta . 2005 will again bring PICYA's Lipton Series to the Golden Gate Yacht Club. Additionally, the Club welcomes race committees from other clubs who manage their races from our facilities. In 2005, fourteen such races will occur. Interested in joining the Race Committee? Specifically designed for high school sailors, the program provides boats, facilities, coaches, training, and scheduled practices. Information is available by contacting: GGYC’s High School Sailing Program Director Robert Bozina Phone: (408) 554-4431 Email: rbozina@scu.edu . Sailing coaches: Trevor Bozina, Email: tbozina@csum.edu Mallory McCollum, Email: missmowser@astound.net The Golden Gate Yacht Club makes this program available to all San Francisco Bay Area high school students (and incoming freshman) with a sincere desire to get involved in the world of sail. GGYC’s program promotes high school sailing. Beginners are welcome. High School students gain access to the Bay, a dedicated team, have a lot of fun and further the camaraderie characteristic of the Golden Gate Yacht Club. They share campaign responsibilities, and last but not least - find balance between the wind and sea. With membership in the Pacific Coast Interscholastic Sailing Association (PCISA), the team competes against high school sailing teams from California, Arizona and Hawaii. “The Flying Juniors” @ Home Port The Sailing Team Some of our sailors arrive with considerable experience. Many come as beginners with no experience - only enthusiasm and a sincere desire to learn to sail and participate in regattas. Students from any high school are welcome. Once a sailor demonstrates commitment by regularly attending practice, developing skills, and making every effort to participate in regattas, they are encouraged to become “junior” members of the Golden Gate Yacht Club. High school sailors are responsible for managing / maintaining facilities, safety gear, tools, the junior dock, “Junior Warehouse”, and our fleet of FJs. Our program can accept pre-high school students but these young people understand training is honed to prepare them for high school racing when they become old enough to participate. “The Flying Juniors” @ Home Port Golden Gate Yacht Club 1 Yacht Rd.
