Washington Yacht Club (WYC) (W.Y.C.) (ID: 57405)
day. The WYC does not provide alcoholic beverages. The park rangers on the island are responsible for enforcing state law. This includes no underage drinking. All club members are welcome to come, with or without ratings, and each club member can bring up to two guests from outside of the club. Many boats go on a SNC, including all of the club keelboats. At least one keelboat goes early to reserve dock space, so if you want to have an extra day on the island that is the boat for you. Another option for members with a dinghy or catamaran skipper rating is sailing a dinghy to Blake Island, allowing you to enjoy the Puget Sound dinghy experience. A keelboat will tow you through the Lake Washington Ship Canal and the locks, then release you to enjoy the sail out to the island. A whaler with a designated Chief will accompany the dinghies as a rescue boat (and candy supplier). Once you arrive at the island, just pull your dinghy up onto the beach. You must have a skipper rating to take a dinghy on Snooze n Cruise. What To Bring (dinghy sailors ship this equipment on a keelboat) SACK LUNCH for Saturday Water bottle Rain gear & dry change of clothes Never been sailing on a keelboat, and don't know what to wear? We recommend the "3 layer system." That means thermals under, fleece in the middle, and a rain jacket-rain pants outer layer. This works well in both wet and warmer conditions, because you can mix and match layers. Ski or cold weather gloves Sun glasses and hat Sleeping bag Tent Flashlight Games or musical instruments (optional) Anti-seasickness medication or wrist bands (if needed) A minimum of stuff (there is not a huge amount of space on the boats) Requirements Money - Cost is $25 for club members, $30 for guests, $10 for child (10 & Under) Work Party - You must attend the SNC work party the Thursday before the cruise. This is where you will pay (by cash or check), and help organize the equipment and do some pre-loading of the boats. This is the only place that we will accept payment. No work party, no payment, no cruise. Help Out - Each person attending will be assigned a food prep or clean up job to do while on the island On the morning of the SNC, we will meet at the WAC at 8:00 a.m. to load the boats. We leave the docks as soon as we are ready, so don't be late. We usually get back to the docks at around 6pm on Sunday, but this can vary greatly depending on the wind. If you have any questions send email to the SNC Chair $ ( aschantz@u.washington.edu ) . These records commonly connect major ports. As members of the WYC we believe that our Lake Washington deserves a benchmark crossing challenge as well, linking the main intellectual and cultural center of the pacific Northwest - the University of Washington - with the sprawling urban center of downtown Kirkland. This challenge is intended exclusively for WYC members to give them some direction in their endless quest to sail fast. The Keelboat Fleet We currently have three keelboats. Caravel is a Bristol 22, Charlotte is a Catalina 27, and Rascal is a Ranger 26. Keelboat Lessons The club teaches keelboat lessons as a part of its regular lessons program . Members can buy a burgee from theProgram Director at the club office. Flying a club burgee is often a requirement when using the facilities at reciprocal yacht clubs . Reciprocal Moorage The Washington Yacht Club exchanges reciprocal mooring privileges with other yacht clubs in the US and Canada. This lets club members park a boat at many Puget Sound locations one night for free! Find out more in the Reciprocal Moorage section of the web site. Pumpout Stations Emptying a holding tank is a necessary responsibility for keelboat sailors. The most convenient station for WYC members is the Marina Mart 24 Hour Pumpout on Lake Union. About 3/4 the way down the west side of Lake Union is the Marina Mart, a tall store on shore with many boat houses and slips hiding its location. Line yourself up with the south end of the store, and head towards shore. Though there are no signs here, you will see a small shed next to a starboard side tie. The pump out hose and pump are inside the shed. The pump needs to be primed with a hose or a bucket of water (you need to supply the bucket or the hose yourself). You can moor a vessel at low or no cost at many private and public marinas from South Puget Sound to mid Vancouver Island, British Columbia. When exercising reciprocal moorage privileges, please follow the guidelines below: You must be a current member of WYC to exercise reciprocal moorage. If you are on a club keelboat and therefore left your membership card in the sail locker, bring some photo ID and a copy of your WYC membership card. You must fly a WYC burgee. Burgees are available for purchase from the Program Director at the HUB office during regular office hours. Register your boat at the marina office. Yes you still have to fill out the paperwork, even when you aren't paying. Be respectful of others. You are a guest on somebody's private waterfront property, purchased or leased at great expense. Being loud, littering, or not following marina rules will create problems for the yacht club you are visiting, and they will revoke our mooring privileges. Most of these clubs have links to their web sites on their respective WYC pages. It is recommended that you use the links to obtain current contact information to take with you on your trip.
