Hesnes Shipping AS was established in Oslo in 1974, and has for more than 25 years been acting as specialized shipbrokers in worldwide automobile transportation. The office is since 1979 located in Tonsberg, about 90 km south of Oslo. The international airport of Sandefjord, Torp is only 25 minutes away from our office. Today, Hesnes Shipping AS is part of a privately owned group. In addition to the ship brokering, the group cover activities such as ship owning, tug boat operation and offshore engineering, and real estate. In the 1960's and early 70's, conventional car carriers of the Lift On Lift Off (LOLO) type were used extensively in connection with the transportation of factory new cars. The vessels would rig hoistable car decks and load anything from 500 up to 3000 cars depending on the size of the vessel. The LOLO was soon replaced by the Roll On Roll Off (RORO) car/bulk carrier. As the 70's developed, the Pure Car Carrier (PCC) started to replace the conventional vessels. The PCC was then developed into the Pure Car Truck Carrier (PCTC) in order to meet the demands for high and heavy cargo. The introduction of the PCC/PCTC resulted in radical reduction of transportation damages. Hesnes Shipping AS have been able to keep a central position in this development and over the last 25 years more than 15 million cars have moved under our contracts. Our shipbrokers cover today every aspect of the car and roro market worldwide. Although our focus is on ocean-going transportation of cars and roro cargo, we are also involved in land-based transportation of same. By combining our in-house multiple knowledge of short- and deep sea car carrier transportation, we are able to offer our customers valuable advise for the cargo owner, charterer as well as for the ship owner. Our philosophy is to run a tight operation with a small number of people, backed by modern technology. We consider our employees to be our biggest asset.
