Clydeport is Scotland s only major west coast intercontinental and Atlantic facing port. The group s main business is the provision of port facilities and services with property investment and development activities a substantial and growing contributor to both revenue and profit. Clydeport forms an integral part of the economic infrastructure of the west of Scotland and currently handles approximately 7.5 million tonnes of cargo per annum of which approximately 5.1 million tonnes are dry bulk. Clydeport s operations encompass an area of approximately 450 square miles of the river Clyde, its estuary and sea lochs containing the ports of Glasgow, Greenock, Hunterston and Ardrossan, and also BP s oil terminal at Finnart on Loch Long. These facilities provide a wide range of berthage, including deep water berthage and facilities for handling all main categories of shipping and cargoes. The company is headquartered in the city of Glasgow. With the exception of the port of Hunterston, acquired by Clydeport in late 1993, the business grouping has been in existence since the mid 1960s and was formerly conducted by Clyde Port Authority, a statutory Trust port formed in 1966 from the merger of the Clyde Navigation Trust, the Greenock Harbour Trust and the Clyde Lighthouses Trust. Clyde Port Authority was privatised in 1992 and following privatisation was acquired by the Authority s then management and employees. Clydeport obtained a full listing on the London Stock Exchange in December 1994. Clydeport became a wholly owned subsidiary of Peel Holdings PLC in Jan 2003. Clydeport Properties are advisers on property related matters to the companies within Clydeport plc including Clydeport Operations Ltd and the joint venture investment companies specifically set up to increase the company's portfolio. This entails active management of a portfolio of industrial and commercial properties throughout Scotland encompassing letting vacant units, lease renewals, rent reviews and asset management focusing on improving the rental income and seeking out added value opportunities.
