What does this mean to you? Please read below: Q: WHAT IS ISO 9000? A: ISO 9000 is a series of quality standards established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO 9001 is the most comprehensive of 5 standards in the ISO standards. Q: WHAT DOES ISO MEASURE? A: ISO measures the quality of design, production, distribution, installation and service. The ISO system documents quality processes within the company, verifies the company follows the processes, and demands the company meets or exceeds 20 performance criteria. Q: HOW IS THE ISO SYSTEM MEASURED? A: First, a company must pass certification from an outside or third party certification team. Upon certification, the outside team audits the system every 6 months, and an internal auditing team audits the system on a regular basis. Q: WHY BECOME ISO CERTIFIED? A: ISO certification improves our competitive position in the global market and puts a measurable quality assurance system in place at Pascol Engineering. As of 1995, over 50 countries have accepted ISO certification as a standard measure of quality worldwide. Q: HOW DOES ISO 9001 BENEFIT YOU? A: Receiving certification -- Pascol Engineering demonstrates a commitment to consistently provide high-quality products and meet the highest international standards. ISO 9001 Certification gives us a competitive edge. Buyers prefer ISO certified companies when selecting supplier relationships. ISO certification demonstrates global market leadership and provides you with assurance of our commitment to quality, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement. paper2 From Domtar Packaging, Red Rock, Ontario On December 3, 1996, the long awaited start-up of Domtar Packaging's new replacement No. 1 Paper Machine Dryer Section took place. The new section, consisting of a total of (48) dryers and (114) felt rolls c/w miscellaneous equipment is designed to operate at 3000 f.p.m. and was installed during a shut down that started on November 11, 1996. The work involved removal of the original machine, vintage 1928, including all existing framing and soleplates. Salvaged items included recent felt rolls, felt stretchers, (12) dryers and miscellaneous equipment, such as the doctor, tail cutter and rope system components. The new paper machine, approximately 160 feet o.a.l., consists of (4) individual free standing dryer sections, which fit onto the original machine track beam. The support frame is of a modular design, constructed with sole plates to achieve a strong, modern, maintenance friendly machine, with the provision to remove the dryer cans through the tending side for repairs or replacement. Each dryer section is felt driven. The complete dryer section was a unique design conceived, designed and manufactured locally. Each dryer section was shop pre-assembled and match marked prior to shipment to the mill. This pre-assembly resulted in a major saving of time at the mill during installation. The shut down exceeded all expectations and the new machine was successfully producing a quality paper on day (20) of the "shut down".
