Rederiet M.H. Simonsen is a family owned shipping company operating 10 tankers ranging from 670 dwt to 4.000 dwt. Almost all ships are engaged in the trade with edible oils, molasses, fats and other FOSFA acceptable products. Furthermore 2 ships are dedicated foodgrade carriers and adheres to the stringest requirements in the industry. All ships are operated by Simonsen Chartering ApS. Rederiet M.H. Simonsen was founded in 1931 by Martin Hjorth Simonsen. The first thirty years from 1931-1961, the shipping company's main business consisted of drycargo vessels plying the domestic molasses trade. In 1961, the first tanker, MT. Brotank, was purchased. Since then more vessels have been added to the fleet. MT.Oratuna was delivered as a newbuilding in July 2000, MT.Oraness, a drycargo ship purchased in July 2001, was converted into an oil tanker and delivered in February 2002. In Dec 2002, the company's latest newbuilding MT. Orahope was delivered. Today the company is run by the son, Lars Hjorth Simonsen. Since 1998, the office of Rederiet M.H. Simonsen resides in the old mansion Villa Svea by Svendborg Sound. Villa Svea required a year of renovation before moving in was possible, and the mansion is today regarded as the one of the most beautiful houses in Svendborg. Rederiet M.H.
